Built with privacy first
We design Notebar with the principle that your knowledge belongs to you. Here is how we handle data, access, and controls across our platforms.
On-device intelligence
On iOS and macOS, Apple Foundation Models run entirely on your device. Your notebook prompts and results do not leave your hardware for model inference.
iCloud storage by design
Notebook files save to your iCloud Drive so Apple handles synchronization, encryption, and backups. Notebar does not receive iCloud encryption keys.
No server-side copies
For the iOS and macOS apps, we do not host copies of your notebooks. There are no Notebar servers storing the content you create on those platforms.
Platform specifics
- Apple Foundation Models: When you request writing or summarization help on iOS or macOS, the Apple Foundation Models are executed locally on your device. We do not proxy, log, or store the prompts or outputs from these requests.
- iCloud storage: Your notebooks are saved to iCloud Drive using your Apple ID. Apple provides encryption in transit and at rest, and you can disable iCloud Drive at any time via system settings if you prefer to keep notebooks solely on-device.
- No hosted notebook copies: For the native apps we do not maintain server-side backups, caches, or replicas of your content. Any data we process for app diagnostics is anonymized and does not include notebook text.
Legacy web beta
An earlier web beta stored notebook content on Notebar-managed infrastructure to deliver the browser experience. That beta is being sunset, and any remaining data is governed by the original beta terms and routinely purged according to our retention schedule. If you used the web beta and want to confirm deletion or request an export, we are ready to help.
